The influence of art on the brain

Nice, of course, but far from vital. They think: “now I will deal with all the important things, and then I will join the art if I have time.”

Why on New Year’s Day we will give each other more mittens, lollipops or a telephone, and not an album with the works of Renaissance? Why are parents more likely to lead their child to additional classes in physics, and not to the artistic circle? After all, a developed ear or knowledge of a couple of songs on a guitar is unlikely to make the wallet thicker or help to settle in life.

But it’s not that easy! Neurobiology believes that art classes only help to improve concentration, and concentration, in turn, is needed in the exact sciences. They develop analytical thinking, so it would be foolish to abandon them.

If a person sees a picture (no matter who wrote it: (a French impressionist of the last century or a modern young artist from Spain), the occipital part of the cortex of his brain is stimulated. took up writing a picture or a poem or music, then all cognitive mechanisms begin to work hard. American Neuropsychologist Michael Gazzaniga believes that at such moments “perception, memory, attention, motor skills, emotions, abstract thinking and understanding of another’s consciousness – all these mechanisms will switch to the hard work. ”

English neuropsychologist Nicholas Humphrey wondered: why does a person think something is beautiful, but something horrible? What do these ideas come from? It turns out that the tendency to experience, through which a person shares what he sees into separate classes in his head. The psychologist emphasizes: “Beautiful structures in nature or art are those that facilitate the task of classifying,” and also states that understanding aesthetics is very important for any learning process. In addition, when a person sees something quite ugly, the motor area starts working, as if the brain tells us to run away somewhere.

Tubi and Cosmids write that art classes seem useless to people because they reflect on them, starting from the result in the outside world, although it is more important what happens in the brain. It seems that painting landscapes in watercolor is not as useful as solving equations. But it is not necessary to underestimate art! Thanks to him, the brain will learn to focus more quickly and successfully. Joining art is a contribution to a neurocognitive organization.
